Why we are keeping Shavuot on the 12th of June

Why we are doing Shavuot on the 12th of June for those who want to know......this year is a difficult one.....but we would rather be engaged in careful study and possibly be inaccurate than just keep something that is already calculated that we had no involvement in study in. smile emoticonWhenever anyone is trying to keep Torah, that is a great thing..we respect everyone's decision to keep Passover and FOUB this year, whenever they were convicted to keep it.

New Moon of the Aviv Sighted

On Saturday April 9, 2016 the new moon was sighted from Israel. The moon was sighted:
*from Jerusalem by Nehemia Gordon at 6:46pm and seconds later by Devorah Gordon
*from Kiryat Ata by Yoel Halevi at 7:50pm
*from Poriya Ilit by Rebecca Biderman at 7:11 pm
*from Kefar Eldad by Bruce Brill and Seth Kaufman at 7:40pm.
After a flurry of post-Shabbat phone calls, we have not found anyone who succeeded in sighting the new moon from Israel on Friday April 8, 2016. Unless we hear otherwise, the moon sighted from Israel on Saturday April 9, 2016 is Chodesh Ha-Aviv, the New Moon of the Aviv, the beginning of the First Hebrew Month. Based on the Saturday April 9 sighting from Israel, Passover (Chag HaMatzot) will begin at sunset on April 23, 2016 and Shavuot will begin at sunset on Saturday June 11, 2016. Should we receive information that changes this situation we will post it at:

The photo of the new moon at the top of this message was taken by me from Jerusalem on April 9, 2016 at 7:16pm. More photos are posted on my Facebook page.
